Dear Friend,

As I spoke about last year, Los Angeles is facing what may be one of the most consequential funding cliffs for homelessness programs in recent history. Between County shortfalls, potential federal reversals, and state funding delays, our homelessness response system is staring down the barrel of an almost $600 million reduction in funds next fiscal year.

This means it’s more important than ever to understand exactly how our homeless services system works here in LA and how to ensure we are getting and stretching every dollar we can to effectively bring people indoors and into safety.

This month, my office is hosting two opportunities for you to learn more and get involved.

CD4 Conversation: Homelessness & Where LA Stands Today

On Thursday, January 15th at 6PM, we’ll be hosting a CD4 Conversation on homelessness and where LA stands today. This virtual event will cover the present state of homelessness in the City of Los Angeles, our progress and the challenges ahead, and how to bring better accountability to the system. The discussion will also cover the City’s new Homeless Oversight Bureau, our district’s approach to bringing people indoors, and the road ahead.

There will be time for questions, and you’ll hear directly from my team about how you can be part of real solutions, including helping at the 2026 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count (see below!). Be sure to RSVP HERE and submit a question in advance HERE

2026 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count

The following week, the City of Los Angeles will embark on its annual mission to count our unsheltered homeless population. One of the greatest tools we have in assessing our progress as a City toward solving this humanitarian crisis, the annual homeless count provides critical data to help inform policy, secure resources, and deliver services where they are most needed.

In Los Angeles, we have seen two straight years in reductions of unsheltered homelessness after years of increases, sometimes by double digits. Last year’s count showed an all-time high of 27,994 people brought into permanent housing – proof that despite major challenges in the system, we are making real progress in addressing this crisis.

If you are looking for a meaningful way to make a difference for our unhoused neighbors, I invite you to join us for this year’s Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count, happening across three nights on January 20th, 21st, and 22nd.

Our office will once again be hosting the Studio City count, taking place Tuesday, January 20th at 8 PM, at the First Christian Church of North Hollywood, located at 4390 Colfax Ave. To count with CD4 staff, be sure to select “Studio City” in the location drop-down at theycountwillyou.org. To count closer to home, select the neighborhood that works best for you!

Whether you join us for the conversation, the count, or both, your engagement matters and helps us build a stronger, more informed response to one of our City’s most pressing challenges.

With gratitude,
