Dear friend,

The National Weather Service has forecast another bout of Santa Ana Winds expected to hit Los Angeles Monday morning through Tuesday evening, bringing with it the continued risk of extreme fire weather.

Red Flag parking restrictions will be in effect beginning Monday morning, January 21 at 8:00AM until further notice. To view affected parking areas, search for your neighborhood in this LAFD interactive map: Red Flag Parking Restrictions. Updates regarding the Red Flag Parking status can be found at https://ers.lafd.org/redflag/

Please note: ALL of our hillside parks will be closed through Tuesday, while these red flag warnings remain in effect. This includes Griffith Park, Lake Hollywood Park, Runyon Canyon, Wattles, the Hollywood Reservoir, Laurel Canyon Dog Park, Encino Reservoir, and and all MRCA overlooks including the Mulholland overlooks, Fryman-Wilacre, and Trebek Open Space.

Staff and officers from DOT, Rec and Parks, and LAPD will be deployed to monitor closures.

As always during a Red Flag Alert, residents in fire-prone areas should be ready to evacuate and take precautions to prevent fires.

The City of Los Angeles Emergency Management Department recommends ensuring you are prepared NOW in case of an emergency:

  • Prepare an evacuation plan for you and your loved ones
  • Fill up your gas tank or make sure your car is charged
  • Secure any loose outdoor items
  • Adjust travel plans as needed
  • Charge necessary electronic and lighting devices
  • Fill up generators
  • Park cars away from trees
  • When winds start: stay away from trees and windows and use extreme caution with anything that can spark a fire.

Be sure you are staying informed by following the latest updates from the National Weather Service. For all other regional fire information, I encourage you to download the Watch Duty app on your smartphones for the latest updates on evacuation warnings and orders.
