Dear friend,

I am heartbroken by the recent and tragic killing of two Encino residents earlier this month. Robin Kaye and her husband Tom DeLuca were beloved neighbors and their senseless murder has been a shock to our community and our city. This loss has been felt personally by my staff who worked closely with Robin and Tom on improvements to the neighborhood. On behalf of our entire office, I want to extend my sincerest condolences to their family, friends, and everyone who knew and loved them.

While the suspect has been arrested and is being held without bail, I know many residents are now feeling unsafe in their homes and in their neighborhoods. My office has been working in close partnership with LAPD, the Mayor’s Office, and other relevant City departments  to ensure that residents feel safe in their homes and neighborhoods.

Under the leadership of the West Valley Division, LAPD has launched a dedicated crime suppression strategy, based on successful interventions from the summer of 2024. This includes enhanced patrol visibility, and the deployment of mounted officers and helicopter patrols. Detectives are also working in coordination with the Sheriff’s Departments’ Burglary & Robbery Taskforce and the LAPD’s Metropolitan and Commercial Crimes Divisions to target organized burglary crews operating in the area. For more detailed information, please see LAPD’s press statement HERE

In the coming weeks, LAPD will host community engagement events focused on Encino, including a public meeting and engagement with neighborhood groups. These gatherings are an opportunity for residents to speak directly with officers, share concerns, and learn how to better protect themselves and their property. I strongly encourage you to attend — more information will be available HERE soon.

I urge residents to visit the LAPD’s website for crime prevention tips for your home, your business, yourself and your family, HERE

No one should have to feel fear in their own home. Please know that my office is here for you, and I remain fully committed to doing everything we can to keep Encino safe.
