Dear Friends,
It has been one week since federal agents began targeted raids across Los Angeles, in an unprecedented attack against our immigrant community. ICE has shown up at Home Depots, car washes, emergency rooms, schools, libraries, churches, and even nursing home facilities, where they’ve detained those who care for our elderly. These raids have taken place without warrants and detainees have not been given access to a lawyer. Officials confirmed Thursday that 330 people have been detained. Basic constitutional rights are being violated through these actions, and Los Angeles has become less safe.
Elected officials across the city and state have stood alongside immigration organizations, labor unions, faith communities and business leaders to demand an end to the ICE raids – and we will continue to do so until they have stopped. While the federal administration continues to sow discord and chaos, we remain united in our fight to protect all Angelenos.
During this time, we want to make sure you know your rights. Whether you are at your home, school, or a business owner or employee at your workplace, it is critical that you stay informed and know what resources are available to you and your community. For a comprehensive list of resources, please visit our Immigrant Rights & Resources webpage.
If you choose to exercise your right to protest, it is important that you have the tools to do so safely, peacefully, and effectively. I strongly encourage you to join organizers for a virtual training session on how to manage crowds and keep the peace this evening, Friday, June 13th at 6PM at the zoom link HERE. Additionally, please note that a curfew remains in place in Downtown, beginning at 8PM and ending at 6AM.
Our office continues to be in touch with non-profits, rapid response networks, mutual aid groups, public safety officials, and elected officials across the area and will continue to provide you with the most up-to-date information.
Please stay informed, share resources, and encourage others to do the same.
Stay safe,
